Hello Andrew, Tim and Nic

Thanks for a great day. As a rider it was one of the best rides I have done. The later start with a bacon roll and coffee before and a good lunch afterwards show there is more to events than just setting the course. Great format .

We were happy to be part of it as a small sponsor and hope we can continue with you guys.

Regards
Richard Downey

22km Race - Well Done. I felt the start should have been staggered as per Karkloof - it took 3-4mins to cross start line & then cycle through different skill levels. I will be back.

great race but the kids race first just made the day too long. might i suggest two kids races for those that want to ride later without adults. Made one wrong turn where a lot lot of people had ridden over the cross so perhaps where crosses are there should be another at a 10 meter interval. all in all well organised. tx

Hi Caryn

Thanks very much for your feedback.

I think I agree with your view re the kids race. The aim was to enable parents to ride with their kids at a race as we normally do not get to do this. However it was interesting to see that there weren't that many parents riding with their kids in the kids race although many beforehand said that they were really glad that they could do so. It was a bit of an experiment and we would like to get more points of view on this. I would love to know what other people thought about it.

I was in charge of marking and while I was certain before the race that no one was going to get lost, I definitely need to make some improvements for next year.

Lind regards
Nic Jordan

Hi Nick,

Just a short note of thanks for a really great day on Sunday. The Golovane has all the elements of a fantastic MTB for the family but still offers a challenge for the experienced riders culminating in a wonderful atmosphere afterwards. You guy certainly got the mix right so well done.

I thoroughly enjoyed the day as did my son Rowan and his mate Andre despite having to drive home to Jhb after the event….they are certainly in for next year !.

I hope you came out on the right side of the numbers, certainly looked like it and I look forward to riding in Howards Bush again as soon as I can .

Regards,

Hi Roddy

Glad you liked the event and thanks for the compliments ... it is always nice to have feedback from the number one. By the way, you do know we only gave you that number on the understanding you would finish in a position to match your race number????

AND thank you for the mushrooms, they were a welcome surprise and a nice addition to the prizegiving.

Thanks

Will you be posting photos of the event on the Golovane webpage? A good gallery often speaks a thousand words when selling the event to others.

Cheers

Hi guys,

Thanks for an awesome race. I did the 20km (22km actually) ride and it had a good mix of open road, single track and climbs. The only fault I could find was the slow start to the race - the congestion held up some of the faster riders who got stuck behind the bunch during the first 5-6km or so. Other than that it was a great ride.

Thanks to the guys who put it all together.

Regards,
Kobus Lourens

Hi Kobus

Thanks for the kind words and glad you enjoyed the ride.

I have to apologise for the congestion. We worked out 15 minutes would be needed to clear the single track between the two races, and then doubled it ... And then we had two problems: Instead of the 350 riders we anticipated, we had just less than 700 but it should have still been OK if we were not forced to delay the start because of the crash on the highway. We decided to revert to a 15-minute gap to try and make up the time we had lost and, as it proved, it was the wrong decision.

Once again, sorry

Hope to see you next year.

Tim

WOW... well done to all who organized. 2nd in the 22km & loved every inch of it. fine with them but nice to not have too many crazy hills, plenty of that in other races. nice mix of fast & flowing surfaces. running POLITELY through & round the singletrack bottleneck of 40km backmarkers worked totally in my favour. did not expect my "meal voucher" to be a "FULL ON CHOW". live band was cool but my cherry on the top was a 30min 50buck leg massage & then returning to get my back done... nice one guys...

Hi Tim,
I must echo the positive comments coming through from the riders. First time events can often be a nightmare but to the credit of the organising team, there were very few things that could be considered really problematic in my view (other than the challenge of the Unisex showers!). Some other major pluses for me were: 1. The results for the intermediate race were grouped by overall and age category, which is not done in the Classic and Super Classic events, to my frustration. Thanks for that. 2. The provisional results were up on the board early on in the day. 3. The inclusion of a really great meal into the entry fee was a winner. 4. A great combination of single track and fast flowing open track. Although many of us love single track, we also love being able to pump it along open track. That was great. Cheers.

Hi Tim

Thanks for a great day yesterday! Without a doubt the best single track I've ever ridden! I stayed way at the back with a female work colleague, and when we passed the water tables they were still stocked with food and drinks! That's gotta be a first!
My wife and son also had a great time while waiting for us to come in.

All in all a well organized event, well done!

Cheers

Dear Tim

Must congratulate you on an outstanding event on sunday. Whilst my husband and i had to leave early after participating in the 20km race, which we loved, our children and Child carer had such an awesome time in the kiddies area and were so sad to leave. We were blown away by the effort put into the kiddies entertainment, and wish that more races had this. Where race entry was more expensive, it was worth every cent. Your event truely did live up to expectations and we thank you.

Kindest regards
Diane Nightingale

The entry fee was rather high - it is definitely the least value for money MTB race I have entered the past few years. Why make the (so-so) meal a compulsory part of the fee? The course seemed easy enough beforehand but the sand was quite a challenge and the hills were not as easy as expected. The course markings were fine and, along with the clear instructions from the mostly friendly marshalls, nobody needed to take any wrong turns. More honest seeding would have helped - I was held up during the first few kilometres trying to pass people, often going off the track to do so. This cost me quite a few minutes which would be ok if I was not trying to win my category and get a good seeding for the Hill2Hill. (Almost halfway I was hot on the heels of the Masters winner and gaining when one bike pedal came loose and I had to stop several times to tighten the bolt watching several people pass. Few people carry a 8mm Allen key it seems...)Overall it was a good first effort for a race. Will I do it again next year? Depends mostly on the entry fee and to some extent if it would be a seeding race. Thanks for the efforts. By the way - all the apologies about dust and starting late because of the N2 accident were appreciated, but nobody blamed you for these things and apologies were not expected. Regards. James

Hi James

Thanks for taking the time to provide the feedback on the race. We will be bear in mind all your comments and others when we start planning next years event with the intention of making it even better than this year. Value for money was a difficult one as we started the planning without any big sponsors (and no ideas of numbers on the day) and for a long time were expecting to make a loss. We were also very keen on making the day one for the whole family with the band, kids village and the Collisheen venue which all cost money.

Kind regards
Nic Jordan

Pros.A very good event. Nice venue, tough but interesting 50km route.Good organisation for the first time. Cons.Logjam shortly after the start. Too many soft sand sections. It gets very churned up for the slower riders, causing delays and friction on the singletrack. Many said they will not come back. Lunch was poor, luke warm and stodgy for the slower riders. Thanks to all for the event, I will be back next year.
