Second Arysta LifeScience Golovane MTB Race will and bigger and better
THE second annual Arysta LifeScience Golovane MTB Race on July 12 at Holla Trails Centre near Ballito looks like providing North Coast riders with the quality event they have been asking for.
The inaugural 2008 Golovane race was staged to gauge interest for a mountain biking event north of Durban, and the massive success of the race has led to a two-fold bonus for mountain bikers living in the North Coast area.
Firstly, following the 2008 race, organisers Nic Jordan and Hill 2 Hill Events were determined to make the 2009 edition a top-quality event, and with some top-quality sponsors on board, including title sponsors Arysta LifeScience, as well as Lifestyle SUPERSPAR and the Ballito Lifestyle Centre, early indications are that the event looks like fulfilling their desires. This year there will be three events, the Arysta LifeScience 50km race, a 25km Spar Ballito Lifestyle Centre Half Marathon, and a 5km kids race.
Arysta LifeScience offers crop protection products, develops, markets, and distributes chemical solutions for agriscience and farming markets throughout the world.
A second spinoff for mountain bikers from the 2008 event is the launch of Holla Trails. Following the success of 2008, Jordan and Wayne Hulett have launched the mountain bike park at Collisheen B&B and it is already proving a popular riding venue.
The launch of Holla Trails in March also means the trails used for the 2008 event and the Golovane X-plore two-man team event in February have been upgraded, and for 2009 entrants will be riding on well-marked and maintained trails which are properly embedded.
“We are very excited to have a host of new sponsors on board which augers well for the future of the event,” said Ballito famer and race organiser Nic Jordan. “Having Arysta LifeScience on board is very appropriate for this event. Lots of the trails run through farmlands planted with sugar cane and Arysta products help the farmers produce top quality cane and keep unwanted vegetation under control.”
“The Ballito Lifestyle Centre and Lifestyle Spar have played a huge part in the growth of Ballito and having them partner us for this event is also very exciting as we grow this event into one THE major mountain biking race north of Durban.”
