John Dory’s Golovane provides an entertaining test
Thank you to all riders who came and enjoyed a perfect day of mountain biking at the annual John Dory’s Golovane at Holla Trails on Sunday.
The 48km course provided a good test of skills with most riders finding it a testing but fair course despite a few soft, sandy sections which made life a bit difficult in places.
Craig Paul proved his prowess when the going gets tough and he raced to victory and R3 000 first prize by just under a minute from Andrew Hill, with Shaun Peschl claiming third ahead of junior Ryan Ellis with David Leiman ending fifth after a crash slowed him down.
In the women’s event Tamryn Taylor held on from a fast-finishing Bev Wood, with Kirsty Scott claiming third.
In the shorter 22km event Kyle Dorkin, Matthew Schuit and Mandlankosi Mlotshwa filled the top positions.
The kids race was, as always, popular with the youngsters and the speed some completed the route proves that the 22km riders had better watch out in a few years.
From the organization point of view we must thank Nic Jordan and Nick Floros for organizing a well-marked and entertaining course; Wayne Hulett and his team for feeding and quenching our thirsts at the finish; and water table sponsors Stedone Homes and Husqvarna Ballito for making sure the riders had drink out on the course. Also to Wiehahn Formwork and Scaffolding for the great platform over the Rainfarm fence.
But probably the biggest thanks must go to overall event sponsors: John Dory’s came on board for the first time and proved to be fantastic partners in the event with a lot of support as well as providing Pepsi to all finishers and Mr Funtubbles cards (worth more than the entry fee by the way) to all kids event riders.
Our thanks also to Ballito Lifestyle Centre, Lifestyle Spar and Thule for their support and prizes.
